Standing and Living Through the Pain

Standing and Living Through the Pain

Standing and Living Through the Pain

I became visually impaired 15 years ago after retinal surgeries. Since that time I have been lost in pain, in my emotions, and my mind. I have struggled to find a way to find the parts of myself that I felt were lost.

Using Writing to Find New Blessings and Possibilities

One of the things that I have always loved doing is writing. Writing is how I have always processed my world. Now it is how I am finding my way back to me. A few years ago, my children gave me an iPad. I started talking into the iPad, and then Siri came about. The new technology helped revive me, and it opened up my world to new possibilities. I am now able to find the blessings that remain in my life.

Finding Help with Assistive Technology

I rely on Siri every day. To help me find my thoughts, make lists, track my health, my medication and to live with some normalcy. Siri has become a lifeline to my trying to find a way to recover more of who I am. I know my life will never be the same; now I am learning what it can be.

Finding My Way and Living in Spite of the Pain

Fighting pain daily and writing about the struggle helped me realize that every moment in life is precious and that we must learn to celebrate the good days as well as the trying days in order to understand the full purpose and beauty of our life. Writing has brought me through the years of disabling pain, and it allows me to keep standing through my storms. I continue to write and to share my thoughts to help others find their voices too.

Everyone is Important

I want people to understand that we are more alike than we are not. I also want them to realize that their lives matter no matter how impaired or disabled their bodies become. Please know that no matter what challenges you face in life, you will always matter and you can find a way through your storm.
